Picton (Marlborough Sounds) New Zealand - gateway to the spectacular South Island

Located in a waterfront setting, the quaint township of Picton is well designed so visitors can easily walk around all the great shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. However there is plenty of parking available for cars, motorbikes and campervans.

Like many tourist towns, Picton enjoys generous shopping hours during peak season with most shops also open during weekend hours and public holidays (as permitted). Visitors can enjoy great buying for New Zealand's quality souvenirs and materials, including fashionable New Zealand woollen garments, leather, jewellery and more.

Souvenir hunters wont be disappointed at the quality selection of New Zealand made giftware and souvenirs available from a range of shops on High Street, including The Creek Pottery. However if you are looking for New Zealand books, postcards, general magazines, newspapers and stationary, your 'port of call' is Take Note Picton in High Street or Best Books in York Street.

Picton (Marlborough Sounds) New Zealand - gateway to the spectacular South IslandFor art enthusiasts I suggest a visit to Latitude 41 to view their selection of work by New Zealand artists and craftspeople, with items ranging from original paintings by local and national artists, to art cards and prints, ceramics, small carvings in stone and wood, metal art and many other small pieces ideal for travellers.

The Jade Gallery is another 'highly recommended' Picton shopping experience. An extensive range of original jade carvings all designed by Ross Crump and carved by himself and his staff, featuring traditional Maori greenstone carvings, in a contemporary style, as well as beautiful black jade and New Zealand paua shell.

The Picton township may boast a great selection of souvenir stores, however you will still be able to easily locate general shops for your everyday or general requirements, including pharmacy shop, hairdresser, florist, liquor store, post office, photography, etc.
